Award Motivation
The award is made to Nick Cook for his outstanding record in wind engineering, both in its development and its application, established over a period of more than 30 years. His main contributions in research have concerned the development of wind tunnel techniques for determining loads on structures and his work on various aspects of wind structure that are required in wind loading codes. His work on the extreme value analysis of winds and the specification of pressure coefficients consistent with extreme wind speeds have been particularly influential. He has served as the European Regional Secretary of the IAWE and on many UK and international code committees. He has published widely in journals and at conferences. His two “Designers Guides” have become standard wind engineering texts.
